MAJOR JAMES DUNDAS

James
Witford Earle Dundas was born to Scottish immigrants in New York and raised in
North Bergen, NJ.
As a teen he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and was sent to Washington State. After December 7, 1941 he left the CCC and joined the Army in 1942.
Following basic training he was sent to Africa and Italy. When Germany surrendered he was scheduled to board ship to Japan. When Japan surrendered he was sent home.
SSGT. Dundas applied for and was accepted to Officer Candidate School. After graduation he was commissioned Second Lieutenant and sent to Alaska. From Alaska to Ft. Belvoir as First Lieutenant, and after that to Korea to KMAG where he was promoted to Captain.
After Korea he was sent to Verdun, France, Ft. Knox, KY, then to Killeen, TX where he was promoted to Major.
He
soon retired from the Army and worked for
Civil Service and was sent to Vietnam as a civilian. He joined the Coast Guard
Auxiliary and served for 10 years, supporting the Coast Guard station at St.
Imagoes, MD.
On September 11, 2001 he and Flotilla 3-10 from Callao, VA manned the station and patrolled the lower Potomac and St. Mary's rivers from September 11 to October 2001.
