Larry Wiltshire, from Shenandoah presented the Master Plan Phase 1.

-Larry conferred with Brad Butler from the county concerning the numerous easements throughout the community.  Trees should not be planted in an easement, but shrubs can be.  The easements are identified in the plan.

-The Plan has 9 pages of detailed landscape design maps, drawn to a scale of 1 inch equals 30 feet.

-Several places in the Plan are designated as “no mow”  areas, and are an extension of existing natural areas.  The committee suggested that Shenandoah should flag those areas now.  If the Board decides at a later date to change the “no mow” areas, then the flags can be removed.

-Larry suggested the best places to start planting are the most visible areas and the areas that show erosion such as on the slope off the walking path.  Another idea is to plant the large trees first then go back and fill in with the shrubs at a later date.

-Best time of the year to plant is September through December.  Some trees can be planted in January.

The Committee was impressed and excited about the Plan.  We will set up a date for Larry to present the Plan to the Board.  (NOTE: Larry will attend the May 14, 7pm, Board meeting to present the Plan to the Board and Community.)

Ann Graf and Peggy Verdine will develop a cost for each planned area using the itemized price list that Larry provided.

$50,000 is in the 2008 budget for implementing the Master Plan.  It was suggested that P & G should ask for an additional $25,000 for this year’s planting.

Bill Spring asked Larry for estimates for replacing the dead or missing trees around Pond 4.

Frank Burroughs showed pictures of the beautiful wild flowers that are growing in Pond 4 because the bottom of the pond is not being cut.  This is good.

Ken Burke checked the ponds after the recent rain storms, and found them to be draining adequately.  He will check with the county to verify what Falls Run needs to do to maintain the ponds.

Next meeting:  Thursday, May 8, 1 pm.
