Committee Reports:
Roads, Sidewalks, Streetlights, Mailboxes
· Ken Burke reported that streetlights #83 and #84 have been a problem, but they now appear to be repaired and working.
· The expansion joint between the sidewalk and the curb appears to be widening in some locations, particularly in section I. Woody Wilmoth will check them. Also, a list of some of the locations has been given to the Farrar people. They suggest that the mesh material that was installed in the cracks may be missing. Woody’s committee will also check the sidewalks again. Pulte has recently replaced some sidewalks and hopefully they can be persuaded to replace others.
· John Renninger is concerned about a section of sidewalk along Bridgewater that is sinking. There also is a drainage problem in the common area behind a home in that same area, causing the slope to wash away in places. Last year the County noted that work needed to be done to stabilize the slope. Farrar will look into it.
SWM Ponds
· Work in the Gladstone pond and pond #4 along Bridgewater is completed and the County is satisfied with the results. Farrar will hydroseed in and around all the ponds in the next few weeks.
· Work to be done at the 3 Rivers locations is still to be determined. Farrar is waiting for Pulte to decide how to proceed.
· Shenandoah mowed the bottom of pond #4 several times this year. Janie Cindric will check the County regulations for cutting recommendations and requirements for dry ponds.
Grounds and Landscaping
· The cables on Plantation at the Smithfield and Legend entrances belong to Dominion Power. We don’t know when Dominion will cap the cables, but we are on their list.
· Planting of the fall flowers around the Community Center and the entrances will not be done this year because of the drought.
· Several residents have expressed a desire for benches along the walking path. It might be possible to purchase some this year in lieu of spending the money on fall flowers. Janie Cindric will suggest a suitable bench. They will need to be secured in concrete, and Shenandoah can assemble and install them.
· Shenandoah is still watering the new plant and tree installations, but because of Stafford County’s restriction, they are bringing the water from Fairfax.
· The contract with Shenandoah for Phase I of a Master Plan for the enhancement of the common area was approved and signed at the October 10, 2007 Board meeting.
Residents’ Desire to Enhance Grounds Outside their Property Line
· John Lynch, Ken Burke and Robbin Sentell submitted well thought out suggestions and concerns for establishing guidelines for a) allowing residents to enhance grounds that back up to the wooded area and are outside the homeowners property, and b) allowing residents the opportunity to purchase plants or trees or benches for the common area that follows the Master Plan design.
· Environmental impact, maintenance, appearance, uniformity, and approved landscape materials need to be considered in developing guidelines.
· Ken Burke was asked to chair this sub-committee. Robbin Sentell and Frank Burroughs are also on the committee, and they will meet soon.
Next meeting: Thursday, November 15, 1 pm, at the Center.
The November meeting is moved
from the 2nd Thursday to the 3rd Thursday
because of a conflict at the Center.
