“FRED” BUS LINE SERVES FALLS RUN

The Fredericksburg Regional Transit’s (AKA the “FRED”) Stafford Blue Line’s Route No. 7 serves the edges of Falls Run along Plantation Drive at the low-cost rate of 25 cents per trip each way.

The Route No. 7 FRED bus now proceeds east along Plantation Drive shortly after 8:45 a.m.; 10:45 a.m.; 12:45 p.m.; 2:45 p.m.; 4:45 p.m.; and 6:45 p.m. to Lyons Blvd (opposite corner from Gladstone) before turning around and proceeding back west along Plantation to Litchfield Drive and then north to Route 17 and the GEICO center.  The Lyons-Gladstone stop is therefore the closest destination to Falls Run at the present time for our residents to meet the FRED bus.

The Blue Line Bus No. 7 return trip from GEICO to Fredericksburg stops briefly at the Old Forge Shopping Center (southeast of I-95) about five minutes after the odd-numbered hour. The rider can then easily  transfer to the “Gray Line” Shuttle No. 8 to “Fred Central,” located on Princess Anne Street (near Carl’s Ice Cream stand).  There are further transfer options from “FRED Central” to Central Park or to UMW-downtown Fredericksburg .  It is important to request a no-cost bus transfer when first boarding the Fred bus.

The Blue Line Route No. 7 Bus itself also continues along the north side of the River and arrives directly at Train Station on Caroline Street shortly before the even-numbered hour (i.e., 10:00 a.m.; 12:00 noon; 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The FRED will also pick up any passenger calling 24-hours in advance (372-1222), who lives less than three-quarter (3/4) mile away from the Lyons/Gladstone corner on Plantation Drive.  The FRED buses include wheel-chair lifts.  The FRED bus also provides an easy way for the area’s service workforce to reach Falls Run during the day.

In consultation with George Schwartz, the HOA Board of Directors will shortly be discussing a trial extension of the FRED service to the Falls Run Center with the FRED management.  In the meantime, residents should be aware that the FRED Bus provides a nearby low-cost service for our residents within the Fredericksburg area.  Please contact a board member if interested in having the Board of Directors pursue this mode of transportation.
