Minutes Community Center Committee 2/19/10

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tom Bruns.  Members in attendance were Kurt Schaffert, George Malhiot, Rich Lazanov, JO Schmidt, Bob Gilbert, Mary Owens and Martha Poillon.  Also attending were Board Liaison Dan Owens, Activity Director Ann Jones and Property Manager Debbie Sutton.

Reading of January minutes was waived.

The RFA  recommending  granting the pool maintenance contract to Rappahannock Pool  has been submitted to the BoD.

It was determined that the center thermostats have been repaired twice and that they now are working properly.

JO reported on his work on possible installation of a kitchen stove.  He met with Stafford County Officials.   They stated that this would fall under a commercial application which would require  a building permit.  Also required would be a Type 1 Kitchen Exhaust hood with fire suppression.  The cost for this hood alone will exceed $5,000.00.  Combined with the cost of the stove and labor the committee feels that the cost of this project is prohibitive.  A possible alternative is a warming drawer.  If there is interest we will investigate cost.

Martha gave a update on the pool volunteers.  Most importantly, THEY NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS.

Recommended changes to Center Rules have been submitted to the BoD.

After a discussion, there was a motion made that we recommend to the BoD that a contract be awarded to  O’Toole Electric  to perform preventive maintenance on the Uninterrupted Power Supply system  (battery back up).  This system was just restored to original condition and needs to be maintained in that condition and tested quarterly.  It was further discussed that system could possibly be replaced one day with a generator capable  of operating emergency lights and protect the equipment in the center from freezing.

George will investigate cost of an icemaker for the 2011 budget wish list.

Consideration of having a camera installed at the outdoor pool area was tabled until our next meeting.  Prior to that meeting more information will be gathered.

Next scheduled meeting is March 19, 2010

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 PM.
